Seeking possibilities, taking action, and enabling progress

The entrepreneurial members of ENACTUS, an international non-profit organization, are joining forces in the hopes of molding the minds of future leaders and empowering youth to make a difference in their community.

The 40-year-old organization that was once known as Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE) has undergone a transformation leading to a new and improved mission statement and brand name.

According to the ENACTUS website the name is split into three parts. EN(trepreneurial), which is about “having the perspective to see an opportunity and the talent to create value from that opportunity”; ACT(ion), which is about the “willingness to do something and the commitment to see it through even when the outcome is not guaranteed”; and US, which represents the “group of people who see themselves connected in some important way; individuals that are a part of a greater whole.”

“SIFE didn’t give what the organization does and its participants enough credit. We needed to reaffirm our commitment to promoting entrepreneurialism,” says Marketing and Communications Head Nada Ayoub.

Public Relations Head Seif Issa said the organization sought a brand name that stood out as unique and special.

“Joining three elements together in order to show creativity will draw the audience in. We also wanted to show that we are expanding and moving on to bigger and better things,” Issa said.

This organization plays a major role in the AUC community. “It (ENACTUS) is responsible for making AUC students feel like they are part of a bigger picture as they truly affect their communities. ENACTUS helps the community gain real world experiences and start a great career and represent their university,” said Ayoub.

The Projects Committee Head Ahmed Abaza believes that ENACTUS can’t be compared to any other organization or club in AUC because it isn’t about the seminars and meetings that are in closed halls. ENACTUS is about getting out into the real world and having some life experiences.

Abaza added that ENACTUS focuses on creating a tangible impact on society.

He believes that getting the AUC community involved in the development of the country and the underprivileged citizens themselves gives ENACTUS an advantage.

“Our vision serves as an extreme image promoter for the university itself. It presents an administration and student body that are of great philanthropic natures in their region,” Abaza said.

Abaza hopes AUC will become a center for promoting social responsibility, not only to its students but to a much bigger audience to which it caters.

“ENACTUS also develops and creates members that are potential future leaders in community development, all under the umbrella of AUC,” said Issa.

Not only does ENACTUS positively affect the AUC community but Abaza also added that the entrepreneurial group intends to impact some 500,000 individuals from the Egyptian community. And they are following the AUC mission by “making a significant contribution to Egypt.”

He said that it is about improving the quality of life and standard of living for people in need.
