The School of Business honored its newest students during the ‘Welcome Induction for Newly Declared Students’ (WIND) event.

The first edition of the event was held in the New Cairo campus gardens during assembly hour on November 11. The event included a setup of kiosks to orient newly declared business students with the different concentrations within the major.

As per the 2019/2020 AUC catalog, the available concentrations are Marketing, Finance, Management of Information Technology, Entrepreneurship and International Business.

“The Office of Student Services and Development (OSSD) organized the event, and we participated in it. It’s an event to orient and welcome the newly declared business school students,” said Adham Mehany, president of the Business Association.

The Business Association was present to inform the new students about its mission.

Dean of School of Business Sherif Kamel inaugurated the event with a talk in which he advised students to make use of faculty members and resources as much as possible.

“Your journey with this school will continue after your own graduation. You will always be invited to activities back to your school –  back to your own home,” he shared.

Amongst those who got invited back to the School of Business after graduation is Egyptian singer-songwriter Abu (Mohamed Abu El-Enien), who graduated from AUC’s School of Business with a concentration in Finance in 2002.

The only concentrations available for Business majors at the time of Abu’s enrollment were Marketing and Finance.

Abu highlighted his experience as an AUC student and explained the reasons why he switched his career path to singing and songwriting.

“When I was an undergraduate student, I was in a band. We would always win ‘Best Band’ every year,” he said.

As music has been his passion from a young age, Abu worked for a short while at multiple multinational companies before deciding to pursue music full-time. He used this story to highlight the importance of pursuing one’s passion beside studies.

He expressed his pleasure returning to AUC to talk to its newest business students.

“AUC is my second home, and its students are more than welcome to ask me about anything at any time,” he told The Caravan.

While the large turnout of business faculty members, students and alumni helped some newly-declared students learn more about prospective concentrations, some students came to network.

“I already know the concentration I want, and I already know everything about the department. I came here today to network with my fellow business students,” said Farah Ahmed, a newly declared business student.
