As the new semester gets under way and the campus is revived back to life, students are asking what the Student Union (SU) has in store for fall 2022.
SU President Ahmed Berri told The Caravan that the union has heard student needs and plans on reopening and collaborating with more culinary outlets to give the campus a broader variety regarding healthy food options and preferences.
“This semester is all about development and enrichment; we want to focus on enhancing current projects right now so that they are at their highest potential,” he added.
One such project is to solicit student feedback on future concerts by way of a survey to gauge different music tastes before selecting performing artists.
“The AUC film festival will be making an appearance this fall semester, featuring a creative
selection of short films, celebrity guests, and judges,” Berri added.
Regarding the day-to-day changes, Berri shared SU plans on renovating and restocking their markets, both the School of Sciences and Engineering (SSE) and Performing and Visual Arts
(PVA) branches, so that they are in complete preparation to service the community.
Furthermore, the SU app developed by students is being rebooted with enhancements and a
new feature called ‘Walking Buddy’.
“‘Walking Buddy’ promises to provide assistance to anyone who needs it – whether it is a student with a disability or someone who is lost – and is only a button away from notifying the whole AUC campus community and whoever is available can respond to their request,” Berri elaborated.
For the upcoming academic year, Berri stresses that all committees, including Community Engagement (CE) will be “working their hardest” to improve services and outreach.
SU initiatives, such as environmental sustainability, will be put in the spotlight “with the
determination to raise awareness and make a difference”.
“Despite the pandemic-induced challenges the SU met over the past semesters, we are on a mission of getting back to the normal restriction-less lifestyle we have always loved and known,” he added.
In that vein, providing  entertainment and community activities on campus has always been an SU norm.
“When speaking of entertainment, the Union always strives to deliver,” promises the SU’s Continuous Events Head, Malak Nazir.
She said that the committee has packed a lively fall schedule of biweekly trips to popular hotspots in Egypt, such as the White Desert, Fayoum, and Siwa.
She added that these adventures will provide both international and local students a brighter glimpse of Egypt’s raw beauty.
